Role of inter-fibre bonds and their influence on sheet scale behaviour of paper fibre networks

In fibrous paper materials, an exposure to a variation in moisture content causes changes the geometrical and mechanical properties. Such are strongly affected by inter-fibre bonds, which responsible for transfer of hygro-mechanical response from one fibre its neighbours network, resulting sheet-scale deformation. Most models developed literature assume perfect bonding between fibres. 3D reality, there is some flexibility bond region, even perfectly bonded fibres, because possibility deformation gradients through thickness. earlier 2D idealizations, fibres were assumed, implying full kinematic constraint entire thickness sheet. The purpose present study assess effect this assumption. Using homogenization approach, random network generated with different coverages modelled using finite elements. order understand role on hygro-expansive behaviour model developed. model, regular bulk elements bonds represented interfacial stiffness, introduced each pair network.
